A Woman's Worth (21 The Blog Series)
In this day and age,
romantic relationships are portrayed as the highest form of love. From our youth to our adulthood, through
music, movies, TV shows and books, this is the message we are given.
And from youth to
adulthood, many of us go on relentlessly searching for this mystical romance
that we were taught by popular culture to want desperately.
We all want to be
loved. But too many times we forget that
we are loved. So what a lot of us do is
go around trying to fill a void where God is supposed to be with a romantic
relationship.
Before I delve any
deeper, I want you to know that this is coming from a place of love and
understanding, from someone who has allowed God to teach her a lot about the
single season. Ok, here goes.
There is nothing wrong
with aspiring to be in a God-centered relationship; however, problems arise
when we listen to society, and try to get this Godly thing the way the world
tells us to. Because society makes
romance seem like the missing link in our lives, we sometimes do whatever we
have to, even if that means disregarding the Word of God to get it.
In short, we settle for
less than we deserve and become less than who we are to get some guy that we’re
probably too good for. (When I say too good for, I mean someone who is not
willing to treat you the way you should be treated, not that anyone is
inherently better than anyone else.)
Many singles are tempted to go this route. We have to answer the questions, “Do I settle
because I cannot currently see God’s full plan for my relationship status or do
I wait on Him for the Godly man who will treat me the way I should be treated?”
Sometimes this is
hard. Waiting takes faith and reliance
on God. God’s way of doing things is not
always easy. It takes hard work and
commitment, but the most precious and worthwhile things in life cost
something-just like you.
The single season is a
good time to learn more about who God is, allow him to develop our character
and discover our God-given purposes. It
is a great time also to invest in friendships, take up hobbies, and just have
some fun.
I appreciate this season,
because I am learning that every season that I’m in, as long as God created it,
is a good season.
This is one of the ways
the Bible describes love:
4 Love suffers long and is
kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does
not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no
evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices
in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all
things, hopes all things, endures all things.
~1 Corinthians 13:4-7
The Bible also says that
husbands should love their wives the way Christ loved the Church.
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as
Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, 26 that
He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, 27 that
He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle
or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.
~Ephesians 5:25-27
In order to know how we
should be loved, we have to understand the One who first loved us.
